We’re gathering again!  It is our pleasure to invite you to our second event in remembrance of William Appling: A Tribute to William Appling: The Celebration Continues! Through the gifts of two very generous friends of William Appling Singers & Orchestra, we are planning a day of fellowship and music-making in memory and honor of Bill.  It will also be a chance to further spread the word about The William Appling - Scott Joplin Project and to raise funds to complete our editing and production of Bill’s brilliant recording of Scott Joplin’s piano works.

As we did in 2009 at Riverside Church, we will assemble a choir of Bill’s students, colleagues and friends.
The choir, conducted by
Matthew Oltman, Music Director Emeritus of the renowned male vocal ensemble Chanticleer, will rehearse in the morning and sing several short pieces (chosen by choristers) in the afternoon program of music and readings.  To close the program we will sing “Have Ye Not Known?” and “Ye Shall Have A Song,” the final two sections of Randall Thompson’s The Peaceable Kingdom, a beloved work of Bill’s that he conducted many times. A reception with excellent food and drink will follow the program.

Two special highlights on the program are already planned: Legendary jazz guitarist (and Bill’s good friend)
Jim Hall will be performing a short set, and best-selling author and two-time Thurber Prize winner Ian Frazier will be reading selections from his works.  We are very grateful that these two renowned artists have offered to join us in honoring Bill.

We ask those wishing to sing in the chorus to please contact us by June 1st at waso@muzen.com. Please visit the Choristers Information page for details on the music, rehearsal and other information.

We look forward to seeing friends both old and new on June 29th for this very special celebration! Please check back often as we will continue to update details of the program. You may also follow us on The William Appling - Scott Joplin Project Facebook page.
