The Board of Directors of William Appling Singers & Orchestra is pleased to announce Celebrating William Appling, an afternoon of musical and spoken tribute honoring William Appling's life, to take place at The Riverside Church in New York City, on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Musical tributes will be offered by Bill's longtime friends Jim Hall, guitarist, and David Ralph, organist; and Summer Music Experience alumnae Sarah Adams, violist, and Debra Lew Harder, pianist. In addition, a choir comprised of those who sang with Bill throughout the many years of his teaching and conducting will sing J.S. Bach's Motet “Singet dem Herrn,” for double unaccompanied chorus, as well as Bill's arrangement of the spiritual “We Shall Walk” to be conducted by Joseph Jennings, the longtime musical director of, and now artistic advisor to, Chanticleer. All who have ever sung with Bill, for no matter how brief a time, are invited to participate in the choir.
